Who I Want to Be When I Grow Up

The Father of Our Country

The Daredevil

This series began with my experiments with graphite and polyurethane and was inspired by a series of children’s books called the Biographies of Famous Young Americans, which I read the last year of middle school, the only exception being Christopher Reeve. The people depicted here are some of those that captured my imagination as a child. These were people who did amazing things, often coming from humble backgrounds, and left behind them legends and great deeds associate with their names.

This is by no means an exhaustive list and is an ongoing project that the continuation of which just needs to be fitted into the ongoing list at occasional points. I really need to schedule this stuff.

As with the other poly graphite painted drawings these require both detailed and gestural expressions, and a great deal of time in relation to adding and drying layers. There is a great deal of detail to the pieces and each of those details is intentional and has a meaning to the overall painting.

Graphite, polyurethane, and white enamel on paper. 21x28 in.
