Native Flowers of Georgia

Turk’s Cap Lily

This series was created out of my experiments with alcohol-based art marker. I was interested in seeing how the colors looked and how the medium itself worked. I played around a bit with some random drawings and wanted to see how it would work as a set of images. I have always been an admirer of the colors, shapes, and design of flowers and decided to see how the marker ink could depict those aspects. As with all other mediums the markers have their own idiosyncrasies, expressive capabilities, and limitations. There is a definite sense of a workable timeframe to the application of the colors.

The flowers shown here are native to my home state. I did a pretty good bit of research to figure out which ones were actually native to the region, and with thanks to the Georgia Native Plant Society I came up with this collection.

My “ongoing” project is to continue doing a series for each state, maybe eventually.
